Start a Learn To Be Chapter

What is a Learn To Be Chapter?

A Learn To Be Chapter is a group of dedicated tutors working together to further Learn To Be’s mission. The purpose of a chapter is to recruit more volunteer tutors and encourage continued tutoring efforts through support and resource sharing.

Why start a chapter?

  • As a Chapter Leader, you’ll gain leadership experience
  • While your sessions will still be 1-on-1, chapters allow you to bring a coworking approach to session planning, resource creation, etc.
  • By working with others, you can make a larger impact within your community and across the US!

How do you start a chapter?

All active Learn To Be tutors in good standing are eligible to start their own chapter!

  1. Consider where your recruitment will have the most reach. You can start a chapter in your school, community or within other outside organizations such as through your workplace, organized sports team, book club, social groups, etc.
  2. Make a plan. Think about how you’ll recruit more tutors, where you can hold meetings either in person or virtually, how you’ll motivate your chapter tutors to keep tutoring, etc.
  3. Apply via the Learn To Be website. A Learn To Be team member will process your chapter request within 1-3 business days. Once approved, you will be a new Chapter Leader!

Helpful Tip: If you are starting a chapter within your school, keep in mind that some schools may have requirements for starting a club, such as finding a faculty advisor.

You have a new chapter! Now what?

Begin working towards the following goals to! Each chapter has the academic year of September 1st through May 31st to achieve the following:

  1. Recruit at least 10 tutors
  2. Hold at least 500 hours of tutoring collectively
  3. Fundraise at least $500 collectively

Check out our Quick Guide to Fundraising for Chapters and our Quick Guide to Recruiting for Chapters

At the end of the academic year, the LTB team will evaluate all chapters to see who has accomplished these goals! If your chapter has accomplished these goals, each tutor who has contributed at least 25 hours to the overall hour total will receive a certificate, LTB shirt, and the chapter as a whole will be recognized on the LTB website.

Helpful Tip: If you don’t complete these goals by May 31st, it’s okay! You are welcome to continue working towards these goals each year until you meet them.
