Tutor Corps Overview

Program Timeline

Tutor Corps takes place from June 1 – May 31 each year. Only hours tutored between these dates will count towards the 200 hour goal. Tutors should be tutoring consistently throughout the year — not just in bursts in order to hit milestones. Remember, tutoring is about the student and studies have shown that consistent long-term tutoring is the most effective.

Milestones

To stay in the program, you must hit the following hour milestones:

  • 50 hours by Sept 1
  • 100 hours by Jan 1
  • 200 hours by May 31

Awards:

  • $1000 via Visa giftcard
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Badge/Certification on Linkedin

$1,000 Award & Payment Info

  • Payments are made at the end of the program (not earlier).

  • In order to receive the $1000 reward you will need to submit a W-9. You will do this through Gusto, our payroll system after the program is complete.
    • Reminder: We’re not tax pros. Please ask a parent/guardian if you have any questions or consult a tax professional or TurboTax.
  • If you are under 18, please return a parental consent form.
  • Please ensure you are able to receive the $1000 reward legally in the United States. If you are in the US on a visa, please double check that you are legally allowed to receive money.

Important Notes

  • Prep time does not count toward your hours.
  • Tutoring should be active– not independent work.
  • You cannot tutor friends or family members. This is not considered community service.
  • No in-person tutoring is allowed. We are a fully online platform.
  • Group events are okay, but shouldn’t be your main source of hours.
  • Tutoring is considered volunteer work meaning your hours will still count towards community service hours even though you are receiving the $1000 award.
  • Review our policies for more details.

Other Important Advice:

  • Be flexible with scheduling: Students may occasionally arrive late or need to leave early, which can make sessions shorter than expected. Try to plan your time with this in mind. You may need to schedule extra sessions to ensure you hit your goal.
  • Expect the occasional no-show: No-shows do happen, somewhat frequently depending on the student. This is one reason we allow you to work with up to 10 students at a time — so you have more opportunities to build consistent hours, even if a few sessions fall through.
  • Plan around school breaks & holidays: Many students pause tutoring during school holidays or breaks. It’s a good idea to anticipate slower weeks and adjust your schedule accordingly so you can stay on track with your milestones.
