Who are Learn To Be’s students?

Our students are mostly K-12 students from all around the US. We occasionally accept students in community college, taking remedial level college courses, and GED candidates.

Our students come from underserved, low-income communities. Many of our students are foster youth, homeless youth, students attending Title 1 schools, students receiving free or reduced lunch, and families on government assistance. Some students have IEPs or are diagnosed with a learning disability or behavior disorder.

Students are expected to share the same commitment to learning as our LTB staff and volunteers do. Our student application is pretty long and we want to see students/families put in the effort to complete it thoroughly. While we expect students to be committed to the program by showing up on time, being engaged, actively listening and communicating effectively, we also know given some of our students’ circumstances, this is not always possible.
