What does it cost to be a Student Partner?

At this time, there is no cost to be a Student Partner with Learn to Be!


Is there a minimum and maximum number of students or tutors that can be enrolled?

Partners with at least five students or tutors will be considered Active. There is no maximum number of students or tutors a partner can bring to the platform!


Who can receive tutoring with Learn to Be?

Learn to Be students are in Kindergarten through 12th grade in need of tutoring in any school subject. Learn to Be's mission is to serve underserved youth, including but not limited to; homeless youth, foster youth, refugee youth, and youth from low income families. We do not require income verification for our students' families or guardians.

80% of Learn to Be student families report an income of $40,000 or less a year.

Who can tutor with Learn to Be?

Tutors must be at least 14 years old and in high school. Tutors over the age of 18 must agree to a background check. Tutors cannot have a criminal background or history of school discipline.


Does Learn to Be offer on demand tutoring?

Learn to Be is not an on demand tutoring service, which sets us apart from many other online tutoring services. We support weekly tutoring sessions with the same tutor and student pair.


Do tutors have to be able to tutor all grades and all subjects?

No! Tutors are encouraged to only tutor subjects and grade levels they feel comfortable with. It is a Learn to Be policy that tutors work with a student younger than them.


What is the time commitment for students and tutors?

Sessions are typically 1 to 2 times a week for 60 to 90 minutes depending on the needs of the student. Tutors and students will work together to find a time for their weekly sessions. Tutors and students should expect to be on the platform for at least 4 to 6 months, about the length of one semester. However there is no time limit to how long a student or tutor can be active on the platform.


Is tutoring available year round?

Yes! Learn to Be aids in avoiding learning loss during the summer months. Students are able to receive tutoring year round.

Are there technology requirements for students and tutors?

As Learn to Be is fully virtual, students and tutors must have access to a device with internet access for their sessions. Laptops or computers are recommended, but students and tutors could utilize a tablet or even a smartphone if necessary.


Will you sign off on tutoring hours/Presidential Volunteer Service Award/write letters of recommendation/etc. for my tutors?

Yes! Tutors who need their hours verified will need to complete all post session feedback forms. Learn to Be staff will work with Partner Admin to determine the appropriate system for signing off on tutoring hours.
